With a deep passion to be a beacon of hope and a pillar of strength to those in need, 1 ARK was born. Founded in early 2015 and thereafter registered as a NPO in 2018/19 by Mr. Anesh Sooklall & Mr. Leon Pillay, and soon after, joined by the driving force team you see today, we have today become an organization that is helping the community in various ways and on various matters.

With the number of homeless on the street currently just exceeding the 5000 mark & growing rapidly, 1000+ of them are children without families. We, together with the community and you would like to take a stand for them by helping them seek shelter and serving them a fresh hot meal before bed as often as possible.

Our fundraising initiatives allow us to sustain our activities and goals which include:

• Skills Development
• Finding short term employment opportunities for the the unemployed.
• Obtaining property in the Durban CBD to run a soup kitchen out of, as most of the shelters and the sheltered are in the CBD,
• We are also planning a shelter for the homeless which will also be placed in the heart of Durban, the shelter should be able to house about 100 homeless men, women and children, provide them a place to shower, make use of toilet facilities, have at least 1 fresh hot meal for the day and a safe place to sleep at night.
